April is National Car Care Month, but, according to the Car Care Council, it’s important to practice proper car maintenance all year long to keep your vehicle running its best. Caring for your vehicle also helps it retain equity, which is important when it comes time to sell or trade it in.

In honor of National Car Care Month, the Car Care Council asked automotive research company IMR to conduct a survey to find out whom Americans would trust to work on their cars. IMR polled over 22,000 people across the country to find out their answers. As it turns out, there was a rather specific group that the respondents were asked to consider – late-night TV talk show hosts.

And the J’s Have It!

“…With trust being a strong determining factor in choosing care maintenance and repair professionals, we thought it would be fun to ask vehicle owners which late-night TV host they would trust most to work on their cars,” said Rich White, the Car Care Council's executive director.

Of the five contenders, both Jimmy’s of late-night television – Kimmel and Fallon – seemed to soar over their competition, with over 60 percent of the votes between them. In the end, Kimmel edged out Fallon as the guy people would trust to wrench under their hoods, but just barely. Just two-tenths of a percentage point separated first and second place in the poll.

Rounding out the crowd, people voted Stephen Colbert third with 19.6 percent of the vote. Trevor Noah dropped into fourth with 14.3 percent of the popular vote. Americans must be more confident with James Corden singing in the car rather than working on it, as he rounded out the pack with just 11.2 percent of the vote.

“We had a blast working with the council on this project. This was a really fun question to add for our respondents,” said Bill Thompson, president of IMR. “Judging by the number who responded, they were eager to voice their opinion on their favorite late-night host.”

Celebrities Aside…

No matter who you prefer on your TV screen at night, the Car Care Council recommends asking six questions to help you determine the right person to actually work on your car (in case Jimmy Kimmel isn't available).

Car Care Council has Some Fun with Recent Poll on Car MaintenanceOne key to keeping your car on the road can be having the right repair shop on your side. The Car Care Council suggests you ask yourself these questions:

  1. Does the shop have ASE-certified technicians?
  2. Is the shop and waiting area clean?
  3. Are the employees friendly and respectable to the customers?
  4. Can you get a written estimate?
  5. Are warranties offered?
  6. Is the business willing to offer references, or can you see a list of satisfied customers?

Finding a reliable auto repair shop can be important if you have a vehicle you need to keep on the road. Recommendations from family, friends, and other satisfied customers are a good way to find the right place to take your car, whether it needs routine service or major repairs.
